Lifestyle Tutoring for KidsLifestyle Tutoring for Kids is a website that aims to educate and build confidence in children, not only academically, but also personally and socially. My wife, Carly and I have had successful careers as Primary School teachers both here in Australia and abroad, but we knew we wanted to make a difference on a bigger scale. Spending more time with our three girls is also a priority! I was fortunate to have climbed the ladder in London where I was made Head of Junior School at the preparatory school at which I was working. More recently I was employed at one of Australia's leading independent schools where I jumped back on the ladder and was later shortlisted for the position of Headmaster at a different leading independent school. It was here that we found ourselves at crossroads. Working in the independent system for many years, we knew that for those who could afford it there were lots of opportunities to help children succeed, whether through private tutoring, music lessons or extra sports coaching. Feeling that every child deserves a quality education and extra support if they wanted it, I left my teaching job to build Lifestyle Tutoring for Kids, an online Maths tutoring website that uses pre-recorded lessons to teach children (and their parents!) the correct way of doing Maths, as outlined in the new Australian curriculum. Using a SmartBoard, I meticulously prepare each lesson so there is no waiting around while I 'write-up' sums. And through the use of a special camera I am able to do all the weighing and measuring with real weights and liquids! Every lesson comes with a worksheet ready to be downloaded. Once I have taught the concept, I ask my students to pause the video so they can complete the worksheet. When ready to move on they press play and mark it immediately. Each of the courses follow the Australian Curriculum and we have even set these up to mirror the 4 terms of the school year. At the end of each course there is a quiz. Once again I go through this paper with the students and have them mark their own work. They then decide which certificate to print out based on their effort and results.Your child is also awarded an online badge for completing the course. How do we build confidence in children in other areas? Each child is sent a Lifestyle Tutoring folder to file all their worksheets safely. We also include a Lifestyle Routine Organiser. This helps your child to manage their time by providing a weekly timetable. It also asks them to set some goals in all areas of their lives - academic work, fitness/sport, music and hobbies. The Lifestyle Success page encourages kids to video themselves achieving their goals like our 'black belt brothers' or Mackenzie, our Junior Girls Wakeboarding World Champion. At the end of every lesson, I encourage your child to go and work on their goals and to spend time with their family in order to be the best person they can be! Simon Rae, Director/Teacher "Mr Rae was the first teacher to make me believe in myself. He helped me to see what I was capable of and was so nice. He definitely made a large impact on my education." Once in a while you come across a teacher who has a special way of relating to his students calmly and kindly. Mr Rae managed to do this bringing the best out in them. He was genuinely respected and liked and I'm so grateful Noah had the opportunity to have him, as I feel he unlocked something that has had a profound impact on Noah's learning. Simon taught our son Angus in Year 4, helping him through what was at the time a challenging transition to a new school. I can honestly say that Simon played a major role in helping Angus become the happy, confident and capable young man he is today, and we fondly remember Simon as one of the best teachers Angus has ever had. Simon is a dedicated, caring and experienced educator who strives both to understand and cater for the individual needs of the students in his care. He builds a positive rapport with students, who respond to his structured, calm and systematic approach to learning. Quite simply, Simon is one of the most outstanding teachers I have had the pleasure of working with in my 32 years in the independent sector. Read Simon's articles on The Educating Parent:

and Learning without School! We began educating our children in 1985, when our eldest was five. In truth, we had helped them learn what they need to learn since they were born. I am a passionate advocate of allowing children to learn unhindered by unnecessary stress and competition, meeting developmental needs in ways that suit their individual learning styles and preferences. Ours was a homeschooling, unschooling and natural learning family! There are hundreds of articles on this site to help you build confidence as a home educating family. We hope that your home educating adventure is as satisfying as ours was! Beverley Paine
